Upgrade Information * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Prior to upgrading Alchemy Server and Alchemy Web components, we strongly recommend that you manually stop the Alchemy Server service, and the Alchemy Web License Manager and Pool Manager Services. If you use Library Services you MUST check in all checked out documents before upgrading from Alchemy Content Management Suite 8.2 SP4 to the current version. When upgrading Alchemy Content Management Suite to the current version, please select all the Alchemy components you require during installation. When upgrading Alchemy Content Management Suite to the current version you MUST run the SQL Configurator supplied in the Alchemy DVD before upgrading your Alchemy install in order to update the Alchemy SQL tables. If you do not update the Alchemy SQL tables before upgrading your Alchemy installation, Alchemy will not function properly. When upgrading to Alchemy Content Management Suite 8.3, you must also upgrade your Records Management Administrator client to version 8.3 to maintain compatibility with the Alchemy Content Management Server. Previous versions of the Kofax release script may not work with this version of Alchemy (version 8.3). Alchemy File Connector Client helps you to add documents, view and modify the contents of the documents, control access to the documents, and search for the documents using Windows Explorer. The Alchemy File Connector UI is localized for French, Japanese, Spanish, Brazilian-Portuguese, Dutch, German, Greek, Arabic, and Italian. * * * * * * * * * * * General Alchemy * * * * * * * * * * * If you have library services enabled, you can now checkout and edit profile data of a saved email message (.msg file). There is an option to backup only the required alchemy database files and data containers, ignoring the files folder. (62931) Resolution: Fixed Issue 008: User is not able to delete a content of the profile field on a previous built database. (60073) Resolution: Document update - cannot use email messages as parent document. Issue 014: Scheduled Database Backup is not working and "Test Email" function does not work as expected. (63178) Resolution: Fixed Issue 015: The highlight is not synchronized when you apply OCR on a TIFF file and search the file for some text. (63962) Resolution: Fixed Issue 016: "Lookup Tables" selection pane is too narrow. User is unable to see the whole selection when editing a checked out document. (63221) Resolution: Fixed Issue 017: Some JPG files appear with their color inverted in Alchemy Viewer pane. (61118) Resolution: Fixed Issue 018: TIFF images that are compressed using LZW Compression appear with inverted color in Alchemy 8.2. (6137) Workaround: Manually enter the name of your SQL Server instance in the Select SQL Server for Alchemy box using the format: SQLServerName\Alchemy. Issue 002: Alchemy works with only Microsoft .Net 3.5 and above on a computer running on Microsoft Vista 32-bit. Resolution: Download and install .Net 3.5 from the following link before installing Alchemy. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en * * * * * * * * * * General Alchemy * * * * * * * * * * Issue 003: Client computers running previous versions of Alchemy (version 7.3.x or older) receive a "Cannot open .tpr file" error message when attempting to open Alchemy databases with custom profile fields controlled by the current version of Alchemy Server. Resolution: Access the database with the current version of Alchemy before using an older Alchemy client to open the database. Alternatively, add a file to the database and populate at least one custom profile field before accessing the database with an older Alchemy client. Issue 004: If you build part of a database before you activate indexing for the File Date field, and then add new records after you activate indexing for the field, the index only contains information for the file dates of the newly added records, not the records you built in the database before you activated indexing. Resolution: Clear the index, activate indexing for the File Date field, and then rebuild the database. * * * * * * * * * * Alchemy File Connector * * * * * * * * * * Issue 005: Predefined Windows error messages will be shown for some failure operations like moving checked out files, as our solution will not have control on the message shown to the user by Windows Explorer. Issue 006: Documents with Zero (0) bytes cannot be added. This means that user will not be able to add a text file in a File Connector folder by right click and create text document option. Issue 007: Additional explorer columns will not be available in a computer running on Microsoft Vista operating system, as Vista does not support custom columns. Issue 008: A document more than 100 MB cannot be added into File Connector. It is an ASP.NET limitation. For more information, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295626 . Issue 009: User cannot rename any file that matches the following file name criteria (files matching this name are treated as temporary files and are ignored). - Any file with the extension .tmp (ex. abc.tmp) - MS Office files containing ~ in their file name. For example, a~bc.doc. - Any file with the hexadecimal name that is combination of 0-9 and A-F without any file extension. For example, 19866A75, ABC etc. * * * * * * * * * * Alchemy Scan * * * * * * * * * * Issue 010: Rescanning one page of a multi-page TIFF replaces the entire file instead of only that page. (0582) Note: Select Thumbnail mode before rescanning a single page. * * * * * * * * * * Alchemy CAD * * * * * * * * * * Issue 011: Due to a third party limitation, users cannot print CAL files in actual size. Resolution: In order to print CAL files correctly, select the "Fit to Page" option under the Print Options dialog. Issue 012: Uninstalling ADMC does not remove the Alchemy menu or the ADMC toolbar button from Microsoft Word. (5633) Workaround: To remove these items from MS Word, do the following: Alchemy Menu 1. On the menu bar, select Tools | Customize. 2. Click the Toolbars tab. 3. Select Menu Bar. 4. Click Reset. 5. If necessary, select Normal.dot in the dropdown box. 6. Alchemy Web * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * What's New * * * * * * * * * * * * * * When checking out a document through Library Services in Alchemy Web you can now edit the document content as well as the metadata. When checking in the document, you now have the ability to create a new version, overwrite the original document, publish the changed document, and/or only check in the document profile information (metadata). Using Library Services in Alchemy Web, you can now download any document you check out to a folder on your hard drive, edit the document in the application of your choice and then upload the document when you check it in. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Alchemy Web Upgrade Information * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Prior to upgrading Alchemy Server and Alchemy Web components, we strongly recommend that you manually stop the Alchemy Server service, and the Alchemy Web License Manager and Pool Manager Services. When upgrading Alchemy Web to the current version, Anonymous access check box under Alchemy Web Directory Security settings is reset. Please restore to the previous state after installation to access Alchemy Web. To convert Microsoft Office file types such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel to PDF in order to support more advanced viewing capabilities like rotate and zoom. To take advantage of the improved document viewing capabilities in Alchemy Web 8.3 you should do the following after upgrading: 1. Install MS Office 2000, 2003, or 2007 on the computer where you installed Alchemy Web Engine. 2. In the Alchemy Web Application Configurator, change your document MIME settings to the following: File Extension MIME Type doc application/X-IMRWPDFViewer ppt application/X-IMRWPDFViewer xls application/X-IMRWPDFViewer 3. Save your settings. Note: You should run the Alchemy Web PoolManager service under a domain account instead of the local system account to avoid problems viewing your MS Office documents. * * * * * * * * Fixed Defects * * * * * * * * Issue 001: Printing text files using Alchemy Web causes FirstViewer to crash Internet Explorer. (63486) Resolution: Fixed Issue 002: You get asp.net errors on Alchemy Web while adding documents to a database that has more than one lookup table. (63355) Resolution: Fixed Issue 003: Alchemy Web Administrator Guide does not specify where Product Logo image file must reside. (62585) Resolution: Document update - user guide with location for the product logo image file.
