Captaris External Document Connector (EDC) 3.0 Feature Pack 1, Service Release 1 Readme

This Readme file provides late-breaking or other information that supplements the Captaris External Document Connector (EDC) 3.0 documentation, which includes the Captaris MFP Module documentation and the XML Generator Module documentation.

Service Releases are the means by which RightFax product updates are distributed from the Captaris Web site. A Service Release may contain updates for system reliability, program compatibility, performance improvements, and more.

IMPORTANT:  While Service Releases are cumulative, it is necessary to install Feature Packs before Service Releases.  If you have not installed EDC 3.0 Feature Pack 1, do so here:   http://www.captaris.com/support/downloads/rightfax/EDC_Updates_Downloads/.

By the time you receive this software, updates to other Captaris software may be available.

To obtain updates to EDC, the Captaris MFP Module, and the XML Generator Module, go to http://www.captaris.com/support/downloads/rightfax/EDC_Updates_Downloads/.

To obtain updates to RightFax 9.3, go to http://www.captaris.com/support/downloads/rightfax/93/index.html.

IMPORTANT: Before installing any updates, you must back up the entire \RightFax directory structure, the fax board directory (usually the \RFBoard folder), and the SQL database for RightFax. To ensure that all necessary files are properly backed up, stop all RightFax services and close all RightFax applications before beginning the backup process.

What is Included in this Service Release?

Feature Pack 1, Service Release 1 for Captaris EDC 3.0 introduces support for version 1.2 of the Captaris RightFax Multifunction Embedded Application (MEAP) for Canon devices.  It also offers software fixes for HP, XML Generator, Canon, Xerox, the Dynamic Information Bridge (DIB), and EDC services.

WARNING: Applying this Service Release  will overwrite all files associated with the Service Release, regardless of the dates and version numbers of those same files already installed on your server. Verify a functional backup before continuing.

Downloading  Feature Pack 1, Service Release 1

From the Captaris server, download EDC300_FP1_SR1.exe from http://www.captaris.com/support/downloads/rightfax/EDC_Updates_Downloads/.

Applying Feature Pack 1, Service Release 1 to RightFax Servers

Apply this update to all RightFax version 9.3 Feature Pack 2 (or later) servers running EDC 3.0 Feature Pack 1.  This includes Captaris MFP Module 3.0 and XML Generator Module 3.0.

Feature Pack 1, Service Release 1 setup options

The installation of Feature Pack 1, Service Release 1 for EDC 3.0 can be customized by using the setup switches below. To use these switches you must run the EDC300_FP1_SR1.exe file from a command line followed by the switches of your choosing. For example, to install the Service Release with no user interaction and to automatically shut down all local RightFax services, you would run the following command from the folder that contains the EDC300_FP1_SR1.exe file (C:\RightFaxServiceRelease in this example).

C:\RightFaxServiceRelease\EDC300_FP1_SR1.exe /quiet /shutdown

Setup switches available in Service Release 1

/quiet  Runs setup silently with no GUI.

/repair Forces a reinstall over the same Feature Pack version.

/passive Run with no interactive GUI. Error or warning messages will be displayed.

/shutdown Shuts down services during a passive or quiet install.

/norestart Use this option if restarting services and processes during the install is undesirable.

/extract=”<folder>” Use this option to extract the Feature Pack folders and files to a specific folder. A log file called ExtractingFiles_<date_time>.log, will also be created here.

Installing Feature Pack 1, Service Release 1

Follow the steps below to install Feature Pack 1, Service Release 1. These steps do not use any of the setup options listed above.

  1. If you have not already done so, back up the entire \RightFax directory structure, the fax board directory (usually the \RFBoard folder), and the SQL database for RightFax. 7. When the services and applications have been stopped, the wizard will indicate that it is ready to begin the installation.  Click Next to apply the changes in this Service Release.

  8. When all changes have been applied, the wizard will indicate that the changes are complete.  If you wish to view the log after the wizard closes, check the box View log after wizard closes. Click Close to complete the installation.

HP

The ToCompany field does not populate running the HP Module in  EDC 3.0 HotFix 1

This problem has been fixed in this Service Release.  Install the Service Release, then follow these steps:

  1. Remove the HP Module.

  2. Stop and restart all EDC services.

  3. Add the HP Module.

The ToCompany field will now populate.

64572

EDC Manager

EDC licensing sees the default settings as a device, causing it to believe in error that the limit on the number of devices has been exceeded.

Corrected.  Devices are counted properly.

XML Generator

When users configure the advanced settings in EDC to convert jobs to Single Page TIFF, the XML Generator only converts the final page to TIFF, and does not output the other pages.

To make the Single Page TIFF option work as expected:

  1. Open EDC Monitor.

  2. Go to Tools > Advanced EDC Configuration.

  3. Highlight the XML Generator, and click Edit.  This brings up the XML_Generator Module Configuration dialog box.

  4. Highlight RightFax_to_XML, then click  Advanced Options.  The RightFax_to_XML DataFlow dialog box opens.

  5. Select Convert_to_TIFF in the left  pane.

  6. Highlight the Convert_to_TIFF task in the right pane, then click the Edit Task button.

  7. In the Convert Task Options dialog, select Singlepage Tiff from the Format drop-down list.

  8. Click OK.

  9. Choose Copy_Files_SingleDestination in the left pane.

  10. Highlight the Copy_Image task in the right pane, and click Edit Task.

  11. You will now make three changes in the FileCopy Options dialog.  In the Source panel:

      • Type Page*.tif into the Filename text box if you want to see cover pages only on received faxes.

      •  Type *.tif into the Filename text box if you want to see cover pages on sent and received faxes.

12.   In the Destination panel, type {UniqueID}_nnn.tif into the Filename text box.  Note: Include the underscore.

      • nnn represents the first page number of the single page TIFF files, e.g. {Unique_ID}_001 would create a series of TIFFs whose suffixes would start with 001.tif; {Unique_ID}_10 would create a series of TIFFs whose suffixes would start with 10.tif and would be limited to 90 pages numbered 10 – 99.

      • Note that RightFax limits faxes to a maximum of 999 pages, so having more than three digits is not meaningful at this time.

13.   In the If file already exists? drop list, choose Rename by incrementing embedded numbers in the base file name.

14.  Exit all open dialogs by clicking OK or Close, as appropriate.

4. In the Prompts section of that Workflow Form dialog box, click Add.

5. In the Add Prompts dialog box, select [DSS]MFPNAME from the Available Prompts. Add it to the Prompt List and click OK.
