This Readme file provides late-breaking or other information that supplements the Captaris External Document Connector (EDC) 3.0 documentation, which includes the Captaris MFP Module documentation and the XML Generator Module documentation.
Feature/Service Packs are the means by which Captaris product updates are distributed from the Captaris Web site. A Feature/Service Pack may contain updates for system reliability, program compatibility, performance improvements, and more. All Feature/Service Packs are cumulative and also include all previous HotFix and Service Release updates. Each contains new fixes plus all the fixes from previous Feature/Service Packs and HotFixes and Service Releases.
By the time you receive this software, updates to other Captaris software may be available.
To obtain updates to EDC, the Captaris MFP Module, and the XML Generator Module, go to http://www.captaris.com/support/downloads/rightfax/EDC_Updates_Downloads/.
To obtain updates to RightFax 9.3, go to http://www.captaris.com/support/downloads/rightfax/93/index.html.
IMPORTANT: Before installing any updates, you must back up the entire \RightFax directory structure, the fax board directory (usually the \RFBoard folder), and the SQL database for RightFax. To ensure that all necessary files are properly backed up, stop all RightFax services and close all RightFax applications before beginning the backup process.
Feature Pack 1 for Captaris EDC 3.0 introduces support for Unicode Transformation Format-8 (UTF-8) output using the XML Generator Module. Feature Pack 1 also offers software fixes for EDC Services, the XML Generator Module, and all MFP connectors.
WARNING: Applying this Feature Pack will overwrite all files associated with the Feature Pack, regardless of the dates and version numbers of those same files already installed on your server. Verify a functional backup before continuing.
From the Captaris server, download EDC300_FP1.exe from http://www.captaris.com/support/downloads/rightfax/EDC_Updates_Downloads/.
Apply this update to all RightFax version 9.3 Feature Pack 1 (or later) servers running EDC 3.0. This includes Captaris MFP Module 3.0 and XML Generator Module 3.0.
C:\RightFaxFeaturePack\EDC300_FP1.exe /quiet /shutdown
/quiet Runs setup silently with no GUI.
/repair Forces a reinstall over the same Feature Pack version.
/passive Run with no interactive GUI. Error or warning messages will be displayed.
/shutdown Shuts down services during a passive or quiet install.
/norestart Use this option if restarting services and processes during the install is undesirable.
/extract=”<folder>” Use this option to extract the Feature Pack folders and files to a specific folder. A log file called ExtractingFiles_<date_time>.log, will also be created here.
If you have not already done so, back up the entire \RightFax directory structure, and the fax board directory (usually the \RFBoard folder). To ensure that all necessary files are properly backed up, stop all RightFax services before beginning the backup process.
Log on to the RightFax server as an Administrator.
Double-click EDC300_FP1.exe. The EDC 3.00 FP1 Installer opens. Clicking View Readme opens another instance of this Readme, and is unnecessary if you are already viewing this Readme.
Click Start to begin the installation.
If you have backed up your EDC installation, place a checkmark in the box next to the text that reads 'I have backed up my EDC Installation. Click Next to continue.
The EDC 3.00 FP1 Installer wizard will scan your local RightFax server for open applications and RightFax services that are running. Services and applications that are running will be listed. Click Next to allow the wizard to shut down these services and applications.
When the services and applications have been stopped, the wizard will indicate that it is ready to begin the installation. Click Next to apply the changes in this Feature Pack.
When all changes have been applied, the wizard will indicate that the changes are complete. If you wish to view the log after the wizard closes, check the box View log after wizard closes. Click Close to complete the installation.
If you are using the XML Generator Module, follow the steps below after the Feature Pack has been applied:
Click Start > Programs (or All Programs) > RightFax EDC Monitor to open the RightFax EDC Monitor application.
Click Tools > Advanced EDC Configuration.
From the Modules tab, highlight XML Generator and click Edit.
Highlight the RightFax_To_XML DataFlow and click Advanced Options.
Select Generate_XML under Flowpoints.
Highlight Generate_XML in the Options for Individual Tasks pane, and click Edit Task.
Check the Enable embedded XML/HTML entity translation box, and click OK.
Close all remaining dialog boxes.
The Feature Pack 1 installation creates a log file that can be referenced for troubleshooting purposes. Look for the file EDC30_FP1_date_time.log, located at the root of the RightFax directory.
